What is Cosmetic Dentistry?

At Lakeshore Dental Specialists in Detroit cosmetic dentistry means more than just keeping your teeth clean, strong, and healthy. We use cosmetic dentistry to restore the appearance of your healthy smile following trauma or tooth loss.

Though these procedures are called “cosmetic,” they can have a practical impact on your speech, your ability to enjoy your favorite foods, and your daily life. These procedures include dental implants, zygomatic dental implants, All-on-4 Dental Implants, and other treatments for missing teeth.

Read up on each procedure to see how our team of skilled cosmetic dentists in Detroit can change your life with these cutting-edge techniques. Not sure which one makes the most sense for you? Schedule a consultation with our dental implant specialists; we’ll be happy to assess your smile and come up with the perfect treatment plan for you.

Dental Implants

Dental implants typically consist of two parts: a metal post that attaches to the jawbone and a crown that attaches to the post to replace the missing tooth. Single post implants are usually the simplest way to replace a single missing tooth.

The Dental Implant Procedure

Your dental implant surgery begins with our Detroit cosmetic dentist implanting your post. Following this, your mouth will need a short time to heal and let the post settle, usually a few weeks or months. Once our dentists have determined that your mouth looks good and the initial procedure has healed, your final crown will be attached to the post.

Recovery

After the initial procedure, it may take three to five days for the swelling to go away completely. After that, your dentists will monitor your progress and determine when you’ll be ready for your crown to be attached to the post. There is usually no additional recovery time following the crown procedure, so you’ll be ready to try out your new tooth!

Results

Once the implant settles and our dentists attach the crown, you’ll be ready to go for years to come! With proper care and maintenance, your crown can last between 10 and 15 years before needing replacement. The titanium post of a dental implant can last for the rest of your life.

Zygomatic Dental Implants

Like traditional titanium dental implants, zygomatic dental implants are used to replace a single tooth.

The main difference is in the length of the post. Zygomatic implants help those who suffer from upper jaw bone loss receive new teeth by attaching directly into the zygoma (cheekbone). That way, you can receive a beautiful new crown without having to worry about doing bone grafts or a sinus lift.

Procedure

During your initial procedure, our dentists take the titanium post of the zygomatic implant and implant it into your cheekbone, where the bone grafts around it and locks it into place. Once the implant settles, you will return to have your crown placed properly on the post.

Recovery

Like traditional implants, the longest part of the recovery time occurs while making sure the post grafts to the bone. Once this happens and your dentists approve the results, adding the crown usually does not add to the recovery time. You’ll be able to enjoy the feel of trying foods with your new crown the same day our dentists add it to the post.

Results

The zygomatic posts are sturdy titanium and can last for life if properly maintained. Crowns usually last for 10-15 years before needing replacement. Your smile experts at Lakeshore Dental Specialists will give you detailed instructions on how to maximize the life of your zygomatic implant.

All-On-Four

All-On-Four is a revolutionary way to replace multiple missing teeth (or even a full row of teeth) in a single procedure.

As the name implies, a full arch of replacement teeth attaches to four posts that our dentists strategically position along the top or bottom of the jaw, putting all the arch on those four posts. This results in a much more streamlined procedure than creating individual posts or bridges for multiple missing teeth.

Procedure

Once our doctors make sure they have your size just right, they’ll attach four posts to your jawbone at precise angles to ensure a perfect fit. Then, they will attach a test set of teeth to the four posts while you wait for your final arch to arrive. When it does, you’ll get to swap out the test teeth for a beautiful new smile that will last for years!

Recovery

You will experience some tenderness following the post implantation process. Your dentists will provide you a detailed timeline during your consultation so you know what to expect and when to expect it.

Results

You will need to adjust to having teeth again following your All-on-Four procedure. While your new teeth will look just like normal teeth, they’ll feel different. However, after adjusting to the feel of your new arch, you’ll be able to speak, eat, and smile with confidence!
